We love Harry Potter because he has a noble spirit.
He silently persevered through years of mistreatment by the Dursleys and emerged a mature young man with a good heart and generous nature. When he was informed of his special place in the world of magic, he entered this new role with humility and a depth of character born of trial.
But what if it was a different kid? One who did not necessarily possess these qualities?
What if this special child lacked the self-control and integrity that Harry possessed? What if this child grew in resentment and bitterness toward those who mistreated him? How would he react upon learning of his importance and powers?
